House Update #9: Water

So very much water. It’s continuing to rain almost daily; we’re having a very wet spring for Colorado. Which means everything looks absolutely gorgeous, with vibrant, green grass and bright wildflowers. The downside of all this water is that is adds more delays to our building process (which was originally delayed by the big flood last September). The foundation cannot be poured until the ground is dry. So, while we had originally hoped to have the foundation poured in early May, it looks like it will be closer to mid-late June.

The leach field for the septic system has been dug as well, but can’t be completed and covered back up until the water drains out. Right now, the leach field is a pond. In fact, Little Lady asked to go swimming in it!

Meanwhile, though, the first part of the permanent structure has been installed! Big Man and our excavation guy worked together to install the big drainage culvert under the driveway. So now the water is draining correctly, instead of creating multiple streams through our driveway.

It’s been sunny the last couple days, and we are hopeful the rain will stay away and the ground will continue to dry out. The logs for the main structure are on their way and we’d love to have the foundation poured sometime in the next four weeks. I’ll update again soon, and thanks for following along with our building adventure!
